SONG 24

This is one of the most beautiful songs composed by Aandaal. It looks very simple in meaning but it has a deep interpretation.

After all rituals, Krishna has appeared before her. Now Aandaal is praising him with his heroic deeds.

Devotion is like a knife. It is very dangerous to be a devotee without awareness. It is like the scientist using the nuclear energy for destruction. So Aandaal says whatever we sing, praise, chant, it must be in complete awareness.

Aandaal is asking us to shed the attachment for land by praising Vamana avathara.

Aandaal is asking us to shed the attachment for physical love and sex by praising Ravana vatham.

Aandaal is asking us to shed the attachment for all worldly pleasures by praising Krishna avatharam [Sakataasoora vatham and Dhenuka vatham]

She is asking us to believe only Krishna as our abode by praising his Govardhana udh...daaranam [uplifting Govardhana hill to save all Gopies from heavy rain]

Then she is asking Krishna to allow them to do service, which is the real ''path to salvation''.

Lord Sreeranganathar performs Vamana avatharam, Ravana vatham and Kamsa vatham during Margazhi festival. Every time when he is taken out for procession he will walk like the lion king as mentioned in the previous song. Then he walks like a bull, and when entering the sanctum he walks like a snake, depicting the rising of the Kundalini energy within us.

Aandaal is praising the Lord's spear, which is very unique only in Alagarkoil temple. When Lord Kallalagar proceeds towards Madurai for Chittirai annual festival, he will be decorated with a long spear. I assume that Aandaal has more connections with this shrine and she would have mentioned Alagar's spear. No other aalwaar has mentioned Lord Vishnu with spear.

Exercise: Try to observe your devotion whether you are really doing sadhana with surrender and awareness.
