Thirupaavai - Song -2

In this song AANDAAL invites all those who are interested in the spiritual journey to join her .She has simply and clearly explained how to observe the paavai viratham. In this song, physical and mental cleansing is insisted upon. We must have the sacred bath at dawn, should not use any external cosmetics or flowers, and avoid rich food like milk or ghee .The mind should always think, meditate upon, sing or talk about Lord Krishna.  We must not talk ill of others or disrespect anybody.

*This song denotes Rig Veda in which all important physical pooja gestures and rituals are explained. Always, the spiritual journey is initiated with physical actions.

PAI.YA THU.ENDRA PARAMAN…

The word pai.ya is in the Madurai dialect meaning …slowly. Lord Vishnu had a long romantic dalliance with Lakshmi and went to sleep late. That is what happened in Krishna’s RASALEELA.

*It is a beautiful sight to see Lord Ranganathar and Ranganayaki on Panguni Uthiram night undergoing many poojas and rituals at the end of which they are too tired to sleep.

*Our mind is the milk, which has to be curdled with pure surrender through a guru. The curd is the devotion. We need to churn this curd with our guru to get pure love without ego which is what Krishna wants.

*AANDAAL does not want to wear flowers and eyeliner because there will be a time with the Lord when romance will crush the flowers and smudge her makeup. Already Krishna, the dark, handsome man fills her eyes. She prays to him to screen her vision from all illusions.

EXERCISE: Let us try to keep us away from our favourite food today. But to test yourself, you can ask your family to eat that. Or, you can keep yourself from calling your friend or relative over the phone if you are in the habit of doing so often.
